Actually I both have nothing to talk about and too much to talk about, so I don't know which way to go. First of all, just a short nagging about high school re-unions. I got a message on Facebook yesterday claiming that the next one is coming. I couldn't help thinking why God, especially because the last one was held two years ago. Aren't these supposed to come at regular intervals? The other thing which is troubling me is that these events are all about showing off. You know, leaving home, marriage, babies, doctorates and careers. More of similar thoughts will be found in my Hungarian blog soon but I haven't typed it in as yet. So just a pun here. Goes like this. A re-union is all about showing off. The only reason it isn't called a world fair is that the world doesn't give a damn about it. And the second reason is that the world's not fair.
As I said, there are too many things to reflect on, so why not wind them up a bit, perhaps in bullet points?
- Tonight we were at the Indian Embassy, celebrating Divali, a traditional Hindu holiday. Had lots of food, which was a pleasure. Young boy sang beautifully. Our teacher told fascinating myths about Hindu gods. Just love these Thursday evenings.
- Dilemma at drugstore. Which shade of nail polish to buy?
- Read a book on interviewing (Az interjú by Anna Földes). Never before had it occurred to me to educate myself in the field instead of relying solely on instincts and common sense. Quite interesting and useful manual. Led to another list of to-be-read volumes.
- Read Seven years in Tibet. Truly fascinating. Feel like diving into exotic reads from all over the world.
- Utterly pointless and shamefully brief job interview. Whose fault?
- Everyone seems to have great jobs on LinkedIn. Or is it just the wording?
- Watched Bridget Jones's Diary for umpteenth time. Couldn't help. Sudden urge of wanting to have sex with Colin Firth. It has to do with the gaze. Colin Firth, Robert Redford, Eric Bana all work for me (all right, the latter has a nice body there too). Realized there are already too many people on the list, most of whom would fit to be my father (or grandfather). Will there still be manly man in the coming generations? Hope these superficial metrosexual dumb creatures will be overcome (perish perhaps).

So it's all you have to know about my past few days (if you care). My mood is changing from day to day (at least not by the hour as it used to at times). It's hard to be an optimist. But I do feel like reading a lot. If only it mattered in the real world.

I completely agree with you on the class reunion topic.
ReplyDeleteThe great job thing is really the just wording. After all even secretaries nowadays are called personal assistants. I am always fooled by these super-duper important sounding job titles until I realize these are only made-up titles, just to appear more professional.
Have you read the Bridget Jones book? It's even better than the movie. And sometimes your writing style (both the English and the Hungarian) - eg. the one in this very post - reminds me of the Bridget Jones narrative.
As for the nail polish: check out the New York Color brand at rossmann or other beauty stores. They have beautiful shades, the kind you're looking for, and the prices are (relatively) love. I have this color, and love it: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l0EXeh4QZUg/UEuKCO6-F4I/AAAAAAAAAhI/au_Am1zuutw/s1600/FRW1.png
Of course I've read BJD, both volumes. From time to time I re-read the first one, or rather just take it with me to the loo and read short parts from it.
ReplyDeleteI take it as a compliment if you don't mind. I think it has to do with the shared themes, e.g. job hunt, guys, self-pity, etc.
I've seen the New York color brand and found a lovely fuchsia. The other one I was pondering to buy was an Essence shade. Might buy some when I next see a Rossmann.
Btw, the shade you linked is one of those I liked. I think one needs several shades of red, don't you think? :)
