November 1 is a national holiday in Hungary; therefore, I didn't have to work today. Instead, we went to the cemetary to visit my grandparents' grave. At first I wanted to write about this event but then I changed my mind. Fortunately, Halloween is not the only time of the year when I think of my grandparents, so I don't consider it a shame to have another topic in mind.
Since November 1 falls on a Monday this year, we had a 3-day-long weekend. Actually, since I don't work on Fridays, for me it was 4 days long. The point is that TV channels tend to broadcast something popular and positive on such occasions; i.e. not B category kickbox heroes. Luckily, they picked two nice chick movies this time. Yesterday they broadcasted P.S. I love you, which I missed but saw the last 15 minutes or so, and would like to watch or read.
Today's top movie was Someone like you, and I congratulate myself for watching it. It is a great movie with nice characters, designed to resemble everyday people. (I doubt that Hugh Jackman can ever get far in resembling average guys but I don't take it as a negative feature of him.) The story is plotted following the natural course of a relationship, e.g. attraction, break-up, etc. Jane (Ashley Judd) falls in love with a charming guy (Greg Kinnear), who then turns out to be a "typical" guy and breaks her heart. The woman finds an article about the mating habits of bulls, and based on it she creates her own theory about the nature of human males. Of course the whole thing is biased but this is indeed a very funny movie.
I also liked the music of the film. Interestingly, it has some tracks in common with Bridget Jones's Diary, for example "Someone like you" by Van Morrison. Also the plots show some similarities, e.g. the character of attractive wrongdoing guy, etc. Both films are from 2001; but I don't know if they have anything to do with each other.
For those who are still hesitating let me add that the movie features a sexy-as-usual Hugh Jackman. Wonder why Hugh Jackman cut-out paper kits haven't been invented yet.
P.S. As it so often happens, this movie also drew my attention to what my boyfriend means to me.
