A brief recap of my past few days, weeks, whatever. Monday-Tuesday I went to Bakonybél with the orchestra hiking group, i.e. about ten people. My boyfriend was supposed to come too but at the very last moment his father, my future father-in-law (marvellous!) forced him to stay and participate in a brilliant family event. So I went quasi alone, but as I said, among ten other people, including two couples, a family of four, and a pair of forty-somethings. Actually, I slept in the forty-something room. Anyway, the trip was very nice, beautiful weather, beautiful autumn colours, even good company. There was a moment when a sort of Emersonian/Thoreauian unity with nature touched me. The only thing I didn't like so much was the money.
On Wednesday I went to a meeting. It was supposed to be a job interview, at least I thought so, but it turned out as an editorial meeting, sort of. I'm going to work for a brand new beauty magazine. And even if it's not a full-time position, my articles will appear in print, and I'll get paid for writing, which is the next best thing, I guess.
Later that evening we participated in a reading. The theme was Fülkefor és vidéke by Lajos Parti Nagy. It is a collection of political writings, published weekly in Élet és Irodalom, a prominent Hungarian periodical focusing on literature and politics. What makes the stories unique is that they are told in the form of tales, resembling the stylistic and linguistic features of folk tales. Parti Nagy read out some stories from the book, as well as stories of the same kind that appeared after the publication of the book. The most exciting part was when he read out a story that was to be published the next day, i.e. it was fresh from the printer. In addition to the writer, an actress called Györgyi Kari also performed at the event. She learned three of the tales by heart and presented them in a traditional folk tale telling way, wearing a full Hungarian folk outfit. It was a pleasure to be there, and now I'm the proud owner of a dedicated copy of the book.
Today I had a meeting with a life coaching expert guy at the uni. We're going to work out a strong strategy for my job hunt, and he's forecasting that I'll have a job by January.
After the meeting I broke into the central library. As they'd recently introduced a cloakroom fee of 100 HUF per day, I decided to use up my entire credit, and came out with seven volumes.
Then I went to the Hindi class. I have to add that I didn't feel quite well as I've developed a sore throat since Wed evening. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the class. Now we've learned all the characters and started to work with ligatures, which are a tricky lot. After class my boyfriend took me to the gyros place at Móricz.
And the end of the day? Well, I meant to go to bed at 11 pm the max. And now it's past 1 in the morning. Btw, let me add that my Mom burst in some 45 minutes ago and told me everything that came to her mind, which is most of the time office related. Talking to her reminds me of Chekhov dramas.
