Seems that 24 hours are not enough for me. Maybe I could waste more.
I have this one book per week quest now (copying my fellow blogger soul sister) and I can tell it's really tiring. It takes a lot of time. I managed to read Gilbert within 7 days. I finished it today on the bus. In the evening I went to the library. I stood in front of the English fiction shelves, which holds thousands of books, and I couldn't find one to interest me. Some names popped up but then I didn't find them. Probably they were loaned. Finally I came out with three volumes, two of which are in English, for I try to keep up the good habit of reading in English. I started to read The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I've already seen the film back at university but don't remember much. Only I remember that I felt it was worth reading.
I still haven't come up with a proper review of Gilbert. In fact, I don't really know what I think/feel about it. Some parts were really soapy. At other times I was wondering: Am I really reading a bestseller of the confessions of an American writer who got paid a year's vacation in advance and who wants me to feel sorry for her? Sometimes she's all aching here, aching there, other times "I love myself, the medicine man told me that I'm special, bla-bla-bla..." I haven't seen the film but I could imagine this book actually being written by Julia Roberts. No offense, but still... By the way, it's really funny that the cover includes praises by Hillary Clinton and Julia Roberts and all those big names. I don't think I will read the sequel. Writing a book about your private life and earning billions seems a good idea, though.
P.S. There is one aspect that I've been planning to write about for days now, namely vocabulary. But I don't have the time and energy to deal with this right now. This is just to remind myself before getting into The Color Purple.
