Freedom

There was an interesting thought in The Handmaid's Tale about the nature of freedom. What the book says is that there are two types of freedom: "freedom to" and "freedom from." And the view that you take on this is essential in establishing your relationship towards your life. I mean, being satisfied is about setting the right expectations, isn't it?
Of course in the book it was a totally different issue from what might have to do with my life. Nevertheless, I liked this idea.
Add to this flight of wit the word "freelance," since I am sort of a freelancer. Isn't it a freedom that I have a lot of time on my hands? And of course I always have a choice. I even have the choice to work for free. Right now I'm working for a magazine as an intern. And in this sense the word is not related to the similar sounding "internal," it simply means working for free. I've also done two translation jobs for The Symptoms, my favorite performing company. (I don't know the right word.) I've done it for two reasons. For one, I love what they are doing, and secondly, of course I hope this might get me somewhere in the future.
As my mother would say: we will see. Only I don't like the tone that she uses for such claims. She did the same when I announced I'm going to marry my boyfriend. We will see.
