Some bastard (or should I say soulmate instead?) keeps finding out whatever I'd like to borrow from Szabó Ervin, checks it out, and never returns. I've been waiting for Evening and Atonement for like 3 months now, and each time I search for it, the system says they are out (just like the famous catch "computer says no"). Then I tried something by Alice Munro because I haven't read anything by her and sort of heard I should. In those cases I either try to find an opinion claiming what her most important book is or judge by the titles. Of course the one whose title I liked the best was out. Then I tried an Elizabeth Bowen book because she is mentioned in Iris, which I'm reading now. Then I tried Angela's Ashes, as recommended by my high school lit teacher about one day before. No luck with that either. Is someone following me?
By the way, I happen to have "inherited" some sort of paranoia from my Mom. As I was locking my locker at the library a guy spent what I judged to be too much time on locking his, so instead of going straight in I waited in the hall, then went back to check my locker. Everything was in order, but then the guy came back again. This time I left but couldn't concentrate on where I was until I got back to my locker yet again, everything safe and sound.
Probably I should "book" a book beforehand, though obviously I don't want to pay for that. Or perhaps I should read something else. Like the six or how many books I had borrowed the previous time.
