Money makes the world go round, the world go round

It seems now decided: I'm going to spend this year buying everything I might need in the next five years. Even if I needed anything else, I'm sure I won't have money for that.
As you might recall, this year I have bought lots of a bit more clothes than I usually do, which can be accounted for by the fact that I've never had pocket money, and consequently, clothes of my own liking. Actually, it is my mother who always emphasizes that a professional needs proper clothes. (Perhaps she takes me for something other than a novice teacher in Hungary.)
In addition, I've also bought books for a quite similar reason. There are just sooo many good books out there, and I already know that I will only read a tiny percentage of them, but still, I feel I have to read as much as I can. And having a book of one's own is just so different from borrowing. Not to mention e-books. For me, they aren't the real thing.
Finally, you might recall that I've bought items for a variety of medical problems, from magic cushion to herbal shampoo, which even a seventysomething granny would envy. Adding to this, today I've ordered my next glasses. I've been pondering the idea for months because the rim is really worn now, and has lost most of the paint. Thanks (or not) to the examination they did today, it turned out that my eyesight has also worsened by a whole diopter, and my left eye will also need a cylinder. The doctor suggested that I keep my present glasses to use for reading, so as not to get a too sharp picture when looking at something close to me.
So there goes another 30,000 forint (OK, somewhat less than that, miraculously), and I might spend yet another on doing the advanced level language exam, for I haven't done it yet, and it keeps troubling me. Some say that my MA certifies a higher level of knowledge than the language exam, but many employers require it, nevertheless. Plus it would prove something, and I'm always short of proofs of being in the right place. Now that I've sort of reactivated my poor knowledge of German on holiday, I think I should work something out with that too, though hopefully for free.
So, my little grasshopper, summer is running out, and it's high time you save up for your long winter.

  1. Books are the safest investment you can make, the best entertainment you can find, and the best decoration of any home you can ever have.:)

It's ridiculous that employers require an advanced level lang. exam. Having a language degree that you earned at a proper (A-class?) university should be, must be enough. FYI, that's another 40 thousand forints, or at least that's how much mine cost 5 years ago...

I should also get a new pair of glasses, but they cost so darn much, and I hate to prove to the eye doctor (optometrist?) how bad my eyes actually are.

  2. If you have the patience and the faith I have a good book on vision training, which I started a couple of years ago then left alone out of laziness. It does work, and I've been reading it eagerly since the optometrist declared me -4,25.
