Love is where you are

Today we went out to Buffalo's, a tiny American-style restaurant (or buffet or how shall I call it) near Dózsa György út. We had a bone that I'd bought for my boyfriend's birthday back in May, and it is due on 31 August, so we quickly used it.
At first sight the place didn't look promising. It is very small, in a not too beautiful street (smoggy, smelly Pest street just like all nearby). Upstairs there are as many as three tables, I liked the atmosphere though. The whole place is decorated with American cowboy and Indian stuff, except for a putto or Cupid or what that doesn't really fit. The seats are covered with cowskin (or leather? or fur?), and I really liked it. Of course this is way too stereotypical, and not even something laudable, I mean from the perspective of Indians. Nevertheless, I liked it. Especially the Clint Eastwood pictures, e.g. from Once upon a time in the West. Or was it The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly? (Or For a Fistful of Dollars.) Never mind.
They have lots of hamburgers, hot dogs, burritos, and even subs. You can choose from normal size up to yeti burger, which has a diameter of 20 cms. For dessert, there are muffins, brownies, and American (meaning thick) pancakes. Unfortunately we couldn't choose from the whole menu with the bone, and I wanted to have burritos because they are much bigger here than what you get in American fast food restaurants. Finally, this is what we had:
My boyfriend:
  • chili & chocolate hamburger,
  • hot dog with lettuce and tomato,
  • American pancakes with cottage cheese and chocolate (imitating the taste of túrórudi);
Me:
  • Tuscan hamburger (with mozzarella and tomato),
  • American pancakes with orange jam and toffee (yummie),
  • blood orange drink (bottled soda drink)
I don't know if it's an expensive one compared to the standard but with the bone it was okay. My boyfriend suggested going back because they have a challange; namely, if you can eat the yeti sized burger on your own, it is on the house. If not, than you wasted 3000 forints. I would prefer buying more bones in order to explore more restaurants and draw the Budapest gastro map. (Though I definitely would like to go back to Papírtigris.)

P.S. The only thing that (almost) ruined the evening was that Viva TV was on at the buffet, which is an utter piece of shit. Or to put it in a more sophisticated way, it is a brainwash channel for teenagers and plaza chicks. (And sadly even guys watch it, though not anyone I would be interested in.)

  1. Good thing you wrote about this place, I might go and check it out. I am really into cowboy/Texas-atmosphere these days. Where did you buy the bone?

    Do you know about this place?
